The police stopped the defendant’s vehicle for running a stop sign. Two officers approached the vehicle and both smelled the odor of cannabis emanating from the car. When the officers advised the defendant that they could smell cannabis, the defendant admitted he had marijuana in the car and handed over a cigarette pack containing five marijuana cigarettes. The police asked for a drivers license, and the defendant told the police that he did not have a valid license. The firm took the case to trial.
