Our client was here on an extended vacation from Brazil visiting family and touring colleges. He was able to rent a car at the airport using his international driver’s license. While stopped at a red light, an officer smelled burning marijuana coming from our client’s rental car and pulled him over. Our client admitted marijuana had previously been smoked in the car but that there was none left. The officer, not finding any drugs, wrote our client a criminal ticket for not having a valid Florida driver’s license even though our client showed his international license and rental car agreement. After providing the State proof of our client’s student visa, flight records, and international license, the State agreed to dismiss all charges.
